Because if you want to indoctrinate large numbers of young minds, school is there for you. And as children are more susceptible to believing what they're told, which they are, you get more and more people growing up believing all of the religious nonsense they were told while in school.

Of course, it's progressively harder and harder as young people age. Their "beliefs" stabilize and they're no longer as prone to believing whatever they're told.

This is true. But prior to state schools, the community and family did the same thing. The concept of true free will is a joke. We're tiny boats in a large rocking cultural ocean that crashes against us. Our little boat dips, bows and adapts to it, it molds us. The modern social democratic state incentivizes children with the worst ideals in its little citizens. The Fascist state does the opposite.

But unlike the NSDAP of the past, I wouldn't ban homeschooling. I understand why they did that due to the social crisis and in future it might be necessary for a few short years to re adjust the culture but homeschooling is fine in my opinion.
