Ban Hammer [NEWSPAPER] Edition #2

Welcome to the second edition of Ban Hammer, AtWar's only newspaper! Today we dive into some controversial ideas and changes that I have picked up from some respected members of the community. Do note this is a serious topic, so if you are Pavle click here.

The article is about the current state of the game and some fixes and/or improvements that should be implemented into the game as soon as possible. Note most of the ideas here are not mine, I have merely expanded upon them.

As you know may have guess I am a moderator and that means I have access to some really cool features, so let me bombard you with some numbers. All the information below are from 1 particular day(23/1/2016).







The numbers speak for themselves. Help chat is the global for non-premiums. It's possibly the most inefficient way to address a player's problem and is the perfect breeding ground for alternates to spam. I've included players telling others not to spam help chat as spam. 85% of other accounts are ranked between rank 0 and 7.

Now numbers don't lie. Help chat is ridiculously inefficient and causes more problems than it solves. It needs a replacement and that's where the idea comes in.

Just kidding we ain't fixing it, we removing it but we are leaving something behind. Help channel is mainly meant for low ranks who just got into the game. Right now when a players creates a account this is what they see:



Clicking "Help?" takes them to help chat. However after the changes are implemented here's what they see:





This time clicking "Help?" will bring up a menu where they can type their question. Much like the report function the question will be sent to supporters and moderators who will then assist them. The "Help?" feature would only last till rank 3 and then disappears. The "?" button remains forever and once clicked brings the player to the Questions forum.

This is a really well thought out idea to I problem I didn't even think needed addressing.. But really does. Who came up with this?

Will greatly limit the amount of players that can answer questions, but since I can't come up with any better idea I support this.

Much like the report function your question would get logged to be answered later. You could also click the "?" button and leave a message on the forum.

Ok one sec guys. I'm still not to good at the game and sometimes I want to ask questions directly related to gameplay. I may not want to wait the time it takes to get a response on the forums, which is why I use help chat. How will setting a rank 3 limit help those who are higher ranked than that ask questions?

There more talking about the chat spam in help they cant ban the spammer because he was on a guest account and and switched ips this just a way to fix help chat spam

I totally agree and also if i may add, you would be a great mod and if u ever become mod you can finally teach mods who have been modding for 4 years how to do their job.
Also youre right.when you said a mod can always step down, same as a player is free to piss of whenever hes tired of the game. (Best ivan quote )

Zzz no support. Anyone new to the game will want answers fast at the time of playing. If he is going to be made to wait for the answer its a waste of time. Help channel does serve the purpose of having questions answered fast inspite of the spam. You are purely thinking from your angle you need to think from new users angle. When I try new games and if I don't get the help I want I leave never to come back.

You could surely have tried other ways to solve the problem such as limit of 10 chats per user for 1 hour.

This will be a more inconvenience to new users than solve any of the problems.

I believe there always exist blanks that will never be filled with this help chat spam problem.This idea is the best that can solve this small but so important problem!
I support it all the way,good job meester and mod/admin team for this idea.

Are you serious with what you are writing? E Mare was anything but fair and mature mod, he was the definition of a incompetent mod with powers that looked for any reason to play with his powers even when it wasn't required. And for that he was removed. For a fair and mature mods look at Guest and Columna Durruti, Desu, Hugosch and few more that are inactive and compare.
And since the reason I originally deleted my account was because of e Mare and he is no longer a mod, I think it's unnecessary anymore. I'll stick around until I decide otherwise.

Why do you lie? You deleted your account, sometime last year and came back within a month. e Mare only got demoted a few weeks ago. Last time I checked your annoying @ss (sorry about my french) has been around for much longer than that.

I have noticed in the couple of weeks since I've returned, that e Mare done beyond any other mod. I value his contribution to this game development. Even though there was an incident, and I had my personal opinion, it's just my opinion. He seems to be fair, and honest with everyone, and helpful when players are having problems. Like Zatara mentioned, e Mare contributed a lot with HTML5, and still do. More than the entire mods combained, so if you aren't happy with e Mare you have a choice to stay, or leave.

That was exactly my issue with this solution, not all the times there will be a mod or supporter (why supporter??) available for this.

Also no, help doesn't always solves it's propose. The spam does avoid answering and discourage new questions. It must be prevented somehow. I though putting a strong flood control (30 seconds per message?) would change it but no filter can prevent a spammer that proposes himself to troll the chat. Hiding it from the players seems the best alternative so far.

Assuming you are referring to the username I had that included deleted in my former names. I had username glitch on my account that allowed me and few more players to change our username as much as we want without regulations, and when I tested how to get rid of it deleting my account as a test was one of the methods I tried. It sovled it for me and it was in 2013 not last year, mr smart pants.

Pointing facts with objective opinion doesn't mean I was trying to get a position especially when all active mods are against that person. He was indeed fair when it came to help people with their issues, and was a huge contributer to the fast development of HTML version. However he was not a good choice, and there are many reasons why that overshadow the good things that he did. It isn't a secret he was part of if not the most active mod at that time.

Yes, I wrote it so the admins will understand that he is causing players to leave. And I returned shortly after he misused his powes to restore, then enter mine account and even change password and there was a chance he will be demoted which happened eventually. Anyway it isn't the place to trash talk me feel free to make a forum talking bad about me instead of further derailing this thread.
