Marine defense line bonus?

I was just looking at the units stats in the FAQ and noticed this:



To the best of my knowledge, marines can't wall. Why do they need a defense bonus when in a defense line?

Marines in a inf or tank wall o7

You can also use marines to make walls after they lose their stealth.

Never thought that might be the case because rarely ever are more than single troops used to make a wall.
